Moving and living in the UK

It was scheduled to leave on Friday 29 March 2019, however, the UK has been given an extension. The planned date of withdrawal is 31 October 2019 or if an agreement is reached beforehand then the withdrawal will take place on the first day of the following month.

It is expected that between the date of withdrawal and 31 December 2020 the UK will enter a transition period in which most existing EU regulations will stay the same. We don’t know how things will work in the long-term after 2020.

During this time of transition and change, we want to help migrants to avoid confusion and access the right support when needed.  Our aim is to provide information to help EU citizens and family members of the EU to know their rights and how to access services and any information they might need to live in the UK.

This guide is based on present laws and rules which apply on the date of the publication of this document and which could change according to new agreements between the UK and the EU.
